Student Support Centre

A nurturing and inclusive learning environment

The Westridge Primary School Student Support Centre provides a nurturing and inclusive learning environment designed to support the diverse needs of every learner. The Centre focuses on helping students overcome learning challenges while also enriching the abilities of advanced readers. Through tailored educational strategies and targeted interventions, the Centre ensures that every child has the opportunity to grow academically and develop confidence in their learning journey.

Supporting Diverse Learning Needs

The Student Support Centre offers specialised support for learners experiencing neurodiverse learning challenges, including dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, and ADHD. Through personalised guidance and carefully designed learning strategies, students receive the support they need to overcome academic obstacles.

At the same time, the Centre provides enrichment opportunities for advanced readers through literacy-enhancing activities such as spelling development, word recognition exercises, and blending support. This balanced approach allows every learner to progress at an appropriate pace and develop strong academic foundations.

Early Intervention

Early intervention plays a central role in the Centre’s approach, particularly for learners in Grade 1 and Grade 2. Targeted support is provided in reading, mathematics, and writing to help students build essential foundational skills during the early stages of their education.

By identifying and addressing challenges early, the Centre helps students develop confidence and cultivate a positive "can-do" attitude toward learning.

Teacher Development and Inclusive Education

The Student Support Centre also supports teachers through ongoing professional development. Termly workshops led by specialists equip educators with modern strategies for supporting neurodiverse learners and implementing inclusive teaching practices.

This collaborative approach strengthens the entire school community and ensures that every teacher is well prepared to support the diverse needs of their students.

Our Mission

The mission of the Student Support Centre is to cultivate a lifelong love of reading and learning. Through structured support systems and inclusive educational practices, the Centre strives to create an environment where every learner can thrive, reach their full potential, and develop into confident, independent individuals prepared for the future.
